A Buckeye man is heading to federal prison after repeatedly aiming lasers at F-35 fighter jets training near Luke Air Force Base.
Federal prosecutors say 56-year-old William Wilson targeted multiple Air Force jets between September 2024 and January 2025.
On January 8, an FBI surveillance aircraft was sent up to locate the source. Investigators say the FBI plane and two F-35s were struck that night before video traced the lasers back to Wilson’s Buckeye home.
Agents later found one red and one green laser inside the residence. Wilson admitted pointing lasers at aircraft on several occasions and eventually pleaded guilty to two federal counts.
He was sentenced on June 15 to 10 months in prison.
