The WPSL Eastern region playoffs opened on Saturday 7/11 with New York Athletic Club against Connecticut Rush. NYAC opened the scoring in the 3’ with a goal by Wong. In the 9’, CT Rush committed a penalty in the box. NYAC’s Vinals placed the shot, bringing the score to 2-0 NYAC. By this point in the game, rain started worsening, but that didn’t stop the scoring. in the 23’ Wong found the back of the net again bringing the score to 3-0 going into halftime. Halftime was extended due to a weather delay but both teams game out swinging in the second half, which was scoreless until the end of the match. In a late surge, Mullin scored for CT Rush in the 90th, but there wasn’t enough time left to rally a comeback, allowing NYAC to move on to the regional championships, 3-1.
