OpenAI just gave AI agents a physical interface. Codex Micro is a new $230 hardware controller built with Work Louder that lets developers interact with OpenAI’s Codex coding agents using dedicated physical controls instead of relying solely on software. The device features: • 13 mechanical switches • A joystick and rotary dial • Six illuminated status keys that display agent activity in real time • Custom shortcuts for push to talk, sending commands, and approving or rejecting code changes OpenAI says the limited edition device is separate from its larger consumer hardware project with former Apple designer Jony Ive. This may seem niche today, but it hints at something much bigger. As AI agents become persistent collaborators, we may begin interacting with them through dedicated hardware instead of just keyboards and chat windows.
