Next up we have Barbara Gittings bird!
Barbara Gittings was a pioneering LGBTQ+ activist known for her work in the gay rights movement from the 1950s onward. She led the New York chapter of the Daughters of Bilitis and served as editor of The Ladder, the first nationally distributed lesbian publication in the U.S., where she pushed for a more visible and activist tone. Gittings also helped organize the country’s first gay rights pickets and played a key role in the American Psychiatric Association’s 1973 decision to declassify homosexuality as a mental illness. Her advocacy laid crucial groundwork for LGBTQ+ visibility and equality.
