Six out of five. Yes, I said what I said. I watched The Odyssey at the media premiere at VOX IMAX, Mall of the Emirates, and it was hands down one of the most powerful movie experiences I’ve had. No spoilers. But there are scenes in this film that are genuinely spine-chilling. Not because they are simply loud or visually grand, but because Nolan knows how to build tension until an entire theatre seems to stop breathing at once. The scale is enormous. The cinematography is breathtaking. The background score almost becomes a character of its own. And despite being almost three hours long, I never felt the urge to check the time. Matt Damon carries the weight of Odysseus beautifully, and the ensemble is ridiculously good. The performances give the spectacle its emotional core, which is what stops the film from becoming just another big-budget visual extravaganza. My only peeve?
