Japan’s parliament has approved changes to imperial succession laws - because’s the country’s royal family is running out of members. Faced with a shortage of male heirs, the rule rules will allow the family to bring back distant male relatives and let women keep their royal status after marrying outside the monarchy. But Princess Aiko, the only child of Emperor Naruhito, will still be unable to inherit the throne under Japan’s male-only succession system. Instead, first in line to the throne is 60-year-old Fumihito, the emperor's younger brother. Fumihito's son, 19-year-old Prince Hisahito, is second in line, and the third and final eligible candidate is the emperor's 90-year-old uncle.
