At 102, Denver resident Hughes Van Ellis has survived plenty, including the violent Tulsa Race massacre as a very young child. Time is running out for the one thing he still seeks: justice. More than a century after the racially motivated attack, Ellis and the only other two remaining survivors continue to wait for their day in court.  Ellis has spent the past 50 years in Denver. He told the Office of Storytelling about his family’s escape from the massacre and how it’s shaped his family for decades since.
