💪 For #DisabilityPrideMonth, today, we're honored to hear what disability pride means to our five-time graduate, Margo, who's partnered with #ServiceDog Manhattan. 🐕‍🦺 In her late 30s, Margo started showing signs of extreme fatigue and was later diagnosed with post-polio syndrome (PPS), when the disability had an official name for it. She's been diagnosed for almost 40 years, and she's been an active wheelchair user for 36 years. In 1989, Margo was let go from her nursing job due to her disability, just a year before the passage of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). If the ADA were in place then, her career path may have turned out differently. She, then, decided to apply for a service dog and matched with Wallaby, her first canine partner. “Wallaby helped me open up about living with a disability.
