During our recent trip to Syria, we had the opportunity to meet with members of Syria's newly elected People's Assembly, the country's first real parliament since the fall of the Assad regime. We talked about their priorities, the need for real representation in government, and our shared vision for a prosperous Syria. Syria spent decades under a legislative body that was nothing more than a rubber stamp for a dictatorship. Today, a new generation of lawmakers is stepping into a completely different role, and they are eager to get it right. When we met with them, the Parliament had not yet convened, and they were all excited to finally come together and begin the real work of governing Syria and representing all Syrians. We are excited to work more closely with Syria's new parliament during this new chapter!
