The three-decade run of the Beastie Boys came to an abrupt halt in 2012, when Adam Yauch, a member of the trailblazing rap trio known as MCA, died of cancer. In the aftermath, Michael Diamond, known as Mike D, tried to make music on his own. But he couldn’t go through with it. “The amount of grieving and sadness that I would feel — the easiest way to not feel that was to shut the computer down and walk away from it,” Diamond recalled in a New York Times interview. “It was too much for me to process to stay focused and creative.” Diamond has since returned to music-making and will release a solo album, “Thank You,” on Aug. 28.
