Hungary's prime minister Peter Magyar has publicly apologised after legendary chess player Judit Polgár turned down an offer to become the country's next president. Saying he had announced Polgár's nomination too hastily, Magyar insisted he bore full responsibility for the situation. Magyar had posted to Facebook on Sunday that Polgar, 49, could represent the nation's unity, and that on Monday he would meet Polgar and ask her if she would accept the nomination. While the role of president is largely ceremonial, Polgár said she was not prepared to take on the "historic responsibility of uniting a divided nation." #PeterMagyar #JuditPolgá #HungaryPresident
