POV: BRUV Episode 12 - Bluestripe snapper in Vanuatu This bright and busy school is full of bluestripe snapper, a compact predator of the reef. Bluestripe snapper (Lutjanus kasmira) are a schooling predator that inhabits shallow-to-medium depth coral and rocky reef habitats in the Indo-Pacific. During the day, they often band together in dense, inactive schools for protection against predators, but at night, they patrol the reef, eating crabs, shrimps, cephalopods, and small fishes. These fish are considered invasive in some areas where they were introduced, but are important members of the food chain in their native habitats. Baited remote underwater video systems (BRUVs) are a scientific surveying tool that uses unmanned high-definition cameras to spot and record species on a reef.
