There are over 1,000 postcards in Fonds 534, the George Baird postcard collection. George Baird was a Canadian architect and architectural educator most closely associated with the University of Toronto, where he joined the faculty of the School of Architecture at the University of Toronto from 1967 to 1993, returning as dean of the school from 2004 to 2009. This collection consists of postcards of Toronto landmarks, tourist sites, and scenes. As well as notable Toronto landmarks, many postcards focus on more ordinary urban structures such as hospitals, post offices, schools, banks, restaurants, and libraries. Professor Baird used his collection of Toronto postcards in his architecture classes to inform students about the city's built heritage. 1. Scarborough Civic Centre, 1970s, Fonds 534, File 54. 2.
