We are often taught that it is better to give than to receive.
And while that is true, many of us have turned self-sufficiency into a badge of honor.
We want to be the ones with the answers.
The ones with the extra plate.
The ones who never have to ask for help.
But pride often hides behind the mask of independence.
When we refuse to be helped, we rob our community of the joy of serving. We close the door on the very connection we were created for.
Receiving is a spiritual discipline.
It requires the humility to say, "I cannot do this alone."
It requires the vulnerability to let someone see our empty hands.
When we allow others to serve us, we model the heart of the Gospel to our families. We remind them that we are all, first and foremost, recipients of a Grace we could never earn.
Letting ourselves be loved is an act of worship.
"What do you have that you did not receive?" : 1 Corinthians 4:7
Is there a small way you can let someone help or serve you this week?
