As a recreational tennis player I’ve been recently participating in tournaments and league matches with people I don’t know. Sometimes I get completely struck by the way other people play and it takes some time to figure them out and adjust. Although time is precious and usually I run out of it before taking the game to my advantage. And I usually think that it’s better to know who are you playing against especially if the person has a higher level, because you can mentally prepare and try to make your opponent uncomfortable. On the other hand when you know who are you playing with, your mind mentally twists you into scenarios which are not helpful. Often times demoralising you before the match even started. When I hear interviews of pro players sometimes they say they don’t know who they play against up until very late because it keeps their focus.
