Scarface (1983) An American crime drama remake of the 1932 film of the same name, became a cult classic and a seismic pop culture moment with references to the characters and story even in today’s art and music.
What makes this film and its characters stand out to me are the ways the style in which the characters are dressed. The clothing choices follow a very linear storyline. At the beginning, you see the main character, Tony Montana (played by Al Pacino) dressed in street clothes—open collar shirts, bandannas. As his character becomes more powerful, you see his clothing style sharpen and become increasingly more tasteful, flamboyant and flashy. One of the best juxtapositions is Tony dressed in a white suit with a red collar speaking to Alejandro Sosa in Bolivia. Sosa’s style is clean, mannered, quiet in luxury.
