🇵🇷 Boricua artist NiNo Alicea’s “COQUÍ by NiNo” celebrates Puerto Rican culture, identity, and the coquí. The massive immersive installation, which is made of metal and wood and stands at 15 feet tall and 22 feet wide, has been nominated for the 2026 CODAworx Top 100 Awards. First unveiled at Burning Man, “COQUÍ” features a soundscape and interior area that transport viewers into the iconic tree frog’s home in El Yunque rainforest. “COQUÍ” isn’t the first of Alicea’s works to honor PR at Burning Man. His 2017 installation “MÚCARO,” a 32-foot-owl with a swiveling head and moving eyes, pays homage to Puerto Rico’s múcaro común owl and honors Alicea’s mother Hilda, and his 2022 installation “Atabey’s Treasure,” a huge solar-powered metal fish rising from the ground, honors the freshwater goddess of Taíno folklore. #Coqui #NinoAlicea #PuertoRico #BurningMan #HLOG
