“Luceros y Penumbras: The World’s Largest Pop-up Book,” created by Daniel González and Matthew Reinhart, has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the largest pop-up book ever created. The massive installation measures about 31 feet by 20 feet and features two 11-foot-tall pop-up spreads. It also references González’s personal history and Los Angeles culture, featuring the sea turtles of the San Gabriel River and L.A. basin, California-born writer Octavia E. Butler, and Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent god of Aztec mythology. “It’s a knowledge tree that’s been shaped by all these different things that I’ve learned at the library, about myself, about the city I grew up in, [and] about the town where my family’s from,” González told the LAist. “Luceros y Penumbras” is on display at the Los Angeles Central Library from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Fridays through Saturdays, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. #LosAngeles #LACentralL...
