As part of their independent project, students from our Service Morocco | Group B decided to join a women cooperative to learn and experience the process of traditional rug and blanket making. They were specially interested in the techniques and the traditional symbols found on the textiles. “A lot of these symbols are for protection and culture purposes. One of the main symbols is the one of the Tamazight flag which represents a free man. Some of these same symbols can be seen as tattoos on the women’s chin which usually means they are married and also represents fertility in youth.” . . . 📷: Juliana Gutiérrez #goputney #morocco #rugmaking #symbols #neverstopexploring #highatlasmountains
