Raised in Upper Nyack, New York, Welles Crowther became a volunteer firefighter in his hometown at age 16. After graduating from Boston College, where he played lacrosse, he moved to New York City. Crowther worked as an equity trader at Sandler O’Neill & Partners on the South Tower’s 104th floor. On 9/11, wearing a red bandana, he was seen assisting in the tower’s evacuation.
