The check marks the spot ✔️   For the first time, scientists used our IXPE telescope to measure the magnetic field of a pulsar located in the Lighthouse Nebula. This data helps us understand the structure of these extreme cosmic objects.   Pulsars are highly-magnetic neutron stars—the dense remnants of massive stars—that spin rapidly as they shoot out sweeping beams of radiation in the form of high-energy particles.   Scientists have suspected that these streams of energetic particles flow along the pulsar’s magnetic field lines to create a long, thin filament extending into space. Now, IXPE’s latest observations of the pulsar in the Lighthouse Nebula help support this suspicion.   In this image taken by NASAChandraXray and IXPE, the pulsar and its structures are the checkmark-shaped object in the bottom right of the scene.
