Most runners run this workout wrong.
8x800m at VO2 Max pace w/ 400m recovery jog between each rep.
The primary objective isn’t just to run fast! It’s to improve the ability to sustain a high aerobic output while staying relaxed.
You want to spend enough time to elevate oxygen consumption close to VO2 Max and build running economy at faster than marathon pace.
Folks often race workouts… they go out too hard, collapse or tap out by rep 5 and wonder why they can’t finish the session. That’s not the point. Each rep should look identical. That’s pacing discipline.
The goal is to finish thinking “damn, I’m glad it’s over, but I could’ve done one more.”
If you collapse, you ran it too hard. If you cruise, you didn’t run it hard enough. You gotta find the line between those two. That’s where the real fitness lives.
Mission accomplished.
Respect the workout and the workout will respect you back.
