Bask in the French countryside with this Renoir masterpiece, heading soon to our Maison at #SothebysHongKong.   Created circa 1890, ‘Paysage avec figures’ dates to a period when Renoir’s evolving style brought him widespread acclaim and commercial success. Following extensive travels throughout France, he developed a warmer palette and softer brushwork, focusing more on landscape painting. Here, Renoir depicts the foliage and grass in shifting sunlight and shadow, capturing the tranquil atmosphere as a group of carefree women enjoy an afternoon in the country. ‘Paysage avec figures’ was on extended loan to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston for over a decade during the 1910s and 1920s, and this September, it’ll headline The Hong Kong Sales.
