Mars has much finer atmospheric dust than Earth, which changes the way sunlight is scattered at sunset. While our sunsets appear red because blue light is scattered away, Martian dust scatters red light more efficiently and allows blue light to remain concentrated around the Sun, creating an eerie blue halo. Studying these sunsets helps scientists understand the composition and behavior of the Martian atmosphere. Source (MLA): NASA. "Mars Has Blue Sunsets."
