This is a turtle ant belonging to the genus Cephalotes. Certain soldier ants have evolved highly specialized, disc shaped heads that perfectly seal their nest entrances, a phenomenon known as phragmosis. Their heads act as biological shields against predators and rival ants, making them one of evolution's most remarkable examples of anatomical adaptation for colony defense.
