Much of what gets marketed as "New Age spirituality" is built around what psychologists and philosophers have called spiritual materialism; using spirituality as another way to chase comfort, identity, status, or quick fixes. It's easy to invent practices, package them into expensive courses, and promise transformation without asking people to confront the parts of themselves that actually need to change. Real spiritual growth isn't always comfortable. It challenges you. It dismantles your illusions. It exposes your ego, your attachments, your fears, and the stories you've been telling yourself.
