Far too often, we hold ourselves back from expressing our needs because we are afraid to be vulnerable. 🙈⁣ ⁣ This past weekend, I was at a friend’s birthday party. At the beginning of the party, he said to the group that he really needed love and wished for us to send it to him. I’ll be honest, at first I judged him harshly. I thought to myself “How could he be so vulnerable and admit this out loud?” I felt so much shame for him. It made me extremely uncomfortable. ⁣ ⁣ But as the night went on, I started to realize something: behind his wish to receive love, there was a deep, profound sadness. He REALLY needed it. And I was in a position to give it to him, so what was stopping me? He is my friend, after all. 🤔⁣ ⁣ And that’s when it hit me: the reason I was so quick to judge him and WHY I was so uncomfortable by him asking for love was because that it was the same part of me that did not love about myself.
