Cruz Jones has made Benet Academy history as the first student to win a national championship. Last weekend, Cruz competed in the Amateur Esports Association ( amateur.esports ) National Tournament and brought home the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate championship. Cruz’s journey began in the IHSA ( ihsa_il ) esports competition, which includes approximately 27,000 students from 198 schools across Illinois. After winning both the Sectional and State Championships, Cruz earned an invitation to compete against top players from across the country.
