On this day in 2008, Michelle McCool became the first WWE Divas Champion, defeating Natalya at The Great American Bash in Uniondale, New York. The Divas Championship had been introduced the previous month as a title for the SmackDown brand, with the Women's Championship exclusive to Raw at the time. McCool's win made her the championship's inaugural holder. The title remained active until 2016, when it was retired at WrestleMania 32 and replaced by the current WWE Women's Championship. McCool later became the first wrestler to hold both the Divas and Women's Championships, unifying the two titles with a win over Melina at Night of Champions in 2010.
