Kansas City’s first cake picnic brought a delectable variety of desserts to Southmoreland Park on Saturday. Event organizer Jalyn Glasco Duru was inspired by other viral "cake picnics" to host her own right here in KC. Cake picnics allow a space for bakers to network, share ideas and, most importantly, eat good cake. Before the event began at 5 p.m., cakes and other sweet treats began to fill the tables lining the park walkway. With around 60 cakes and desserts to enjoy, the park quickly turned into a dessert wonderland. Flavors include lemon blueberry, piña colada and cannoli.
