A patient reminded me today that I sometimes forget to say this out loud.⁠ Keep your scabs moist.⁠ ⁠ When a scab dries out, it makes it harder for your skin to heal. The living skin cells that need to crawl over the top to close the wound require a moist environment to do that. A dried, hard scab makes that nearly impossible.⁠ What to use: Vaseline, Aquaphor, CeraVe Healing Ointment, Cicaplast Balm. Anything that pulls hydration and keeps that barrier intact. Hydrocolloid bandages work great too.
