I’m sure we all have a similar variation of this story. A moment of discouragement that we’ve kept tucked away in our brain for a long time. As I look back on this specific moment, the words hurt, but what hurt most is the realization that us as humans have the tendency to point out the flaws in others first, while simultaneously ignoring the flaws that we have or have had in the past. It’s wild and pretentious. I want to be the opposite. I love this page because it’s impossible for me to forget how badly I struggled in the beginning and how I continue to struggle in many ways. It’s a mirror that produces self awareness and humility on a daily basis. I’m grateful for that interesting experience with the 8 UTR guy because it lit a fire underneath me to make sure I never lose the plot, which is: this sport is hard.
