Today we mark the anniversary of humanity's first steps on the Moon in 1969, a moment that changed our relationship with the cosmos forever. 🌖 The Moon continues to capture our imagination and drive scientific discovery. From lunar exploration missions to the search for water ice at the poles, our closest celestial neighbour is once again at the centre of a new era of exploration. 🌗 With more missions heading to the Moon than ever before, international cooperation and coordination are essential. The sustainable, peaceful and safe use of outer space depends on a shared commitment to the rules and principles that guide our activities beyond Earth. 🌘 UNOOSA supports this cooperation through the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its Working Group on Legal Aspects of Space Resource Activities, COPUOS’ Action Team on Lunar Activities Consultation and through the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems.
