Day 5 of Black Maternal Mental Health Week, established by shadesofblueproject. 🖤 The connection between physical health and mental health is undeniable—especially when it comes to the safety of Black mothers and birthing people. Black women are more likely to experience conditions like hypertension prior to pregnancy, a risk factor that is severely exacerbated by chronic stress, systemic racism, and untreated maternal mental health disorders. Maternal mental health is not a standalone issue. Chronic stress triggers physiological changes that directly threaten physical safety during and after pregnancy. Treating the mind is a critical, life-saving step in protecting the body. To save Black mothers, we must adopt holistic care that addresses both mental well-being and physical health together. #BMMHWEEK2026 #MaternalMentalHealth #BlackMaternalMentalHealth #MaternalJustice #shadesofblueproject
