Mayor Zohran Mamdani said in a late Tuesday X post that his administration does not have the authority to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu should the Israeli prime minister return to New York City for the UN General Assembly this fall, quashing a back-and-forth that escalated over the weekend.⁠ ⁠ When asked during an unrelated press conference on Wednesday whether he would have also wanted to arrest the Hamas leaders responsible for the Oct. 7 attack on Israel (if they were still alive and visiting New York City).
