Phoenix police say the two men had never met before that night. Authorities say 22-year-old Julio Angel Osife Diaz was critically wounded at the ARCO near 16th Street and Thomas Road around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 18. He was taken to a hospital, where he later passed away. Detectives say 21-year-old Jaheime Rashard Brown of Surprise approached Diaz and confronted him before the situation escalated. When officers arrived, Brown reportedly walked up to them and said he was involved. Police also recovered a firearm at the scene. Brown was booked on a second-degree murder charge and is being held on a $1 million bond. His next Maricopa County Superior Court appearance is scheduled for July 23.
