The owner couldn’t get it out. Animal control couldn’t get it out. It took a fire crew. Eloy firefighters got a call Wednesday about an animal trapped under a pipe at a home near Highway 87 and Houser Road. What they found was a young horse wedged underneath a pipe fence, panicking and thrashing as it tried to free itself. The owner and a Coolidge animal control officer were already on scene and couldn’t get a hold of the animal. Eloy Battalion Chief Travis Hartman, who owns horses himself, arrived with several other firefighters and they pulled the foal out from under the fence. The department credited the save to old-fashioned brute strength. The horse came out with minor injuries and was returned to its family. Anyone who’s kept horses in Pinal County knows a pipe fence and a curious young horse is a bad combination. Have you ever had to pull one of yours out of something?
