A woman called Gilbert police because she heard a gun had gone off inside her home. She wasn’t there. Her three year old was. Gilbert PD released the details of this one publicly this week, though the call came in back on June 13. According to the department, a 40 year old man inside the home indicated he would not surrender peacefully. SWAT responded, set a perimeter, and worked the situation through intelligence gathering and surveillance while conditions inside the house continued to deteriorate. The child was the whole calculation. When the department determined that waiting longer put the child at greater risk than going in, commanders authorized a crisis entry. Officers got the three year old out safely and took the man into custody on felony charges. No one was injured. Gilbert PD has not released the man’s name, the specific charges, or where in town this happened.
