Cardinals tight end Travis Vokolek announced Wednesday that he’s medically retiring from the NFL at 28. He said doctors and neurologists advised him to stop playing after the neck injury he suffered on Oct. 12 against the Colts.
The injury happened on a touchback with 11:01 left in the first quarter of a 31-27 loss at Indianapolis. He collided with Colts linebacker Segun Olubi, landed awkwardly, and stayed motionless on the field while medical staff stabilized his head and neck before stretchering him off. He was taken to an Indianapolis hospital, cleared to fly home with the team, and spent the rest of the season on injured reserve.
Vokolek went undrafted out of Nebraska in 2023, latched on with Baltimore’s practice squad, and made Arizona’s roster in 2024. He played five games last season, mostly on special teams. In his statement he thanked the Cardinals training staff and...
