He was 83, alone, and had no hiking gear at all. Crews found him alive. Gerald Guinn of Kanab, Utah, got separated from his hiking partner Tuesday afternoon in a remote part of the Grand Canyon’s North Rim, near the park’s northeast boundary along Forest Service Road 610, known as Dog Saddle. His partner reported him missing around 5 p.m. Officials said he was last seen in a tan long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and a ball cap, with no hiking gear or camping equipment. Personnel from Grand Canyon National Park, Coconino County Search and Rescue and Kane County Search and Rescue searched on foot while drones and helicopters covered the area from above. A helicopter reconnaissance flight found him at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, roughly 2.5 miles from where he was last seen.
