Out of a billion people, it was a kid from Tucson. 8-year-old Andres Robles was at Disneyland celebrating his birthday with his parents when the park named him its one billionth guest since it first opened back in 1955. What started as a family birthday trip turned into a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Mickey and Minnie joined the Robles family for a special ceremony at the Main Street train station, where they helped unveil a sign reading “Population: 1,000,000,000.” Disney then surprised them with a VIP experience, a private tour guide, a peek inside Walt Disney’s private apartment above the fire station, and early access to the new Soarin’ Across America attraction. The milestone comes during Disneyland’s 70th anniversary. Millions of families have walked through those gates over seven decades, and the one that tipped it to a billion came from right here in Arizona.
