We’ve all heard of love at first sight. This Arizona shelter went with foster at first sight. Maricopa County Animal Care and Control flipped the script on fostering. Instead of people picking a dog, the dogs got to pick their people. One by one, each pup walked in, checked out its potential human, and made the call, usually with a lick or a happy tail wag. Ten dogs found weekend foster homes through the event, each one heading out for what the shelter called a little “pup-cation.” One new foster said it best: “I feel so loved by him. I’m just so blessed to have him.” There’s a real reason behind it too. The shelter was holding around 800 dogs after roughly 100 pets went missing or got lost from Fourth of July fireworks, and events like this help ease the crowding.
