Arizona officials say distressed homeowners were promised help avoiding foreclosure and told to temporarily transfer their deeds into trusts. According to the state’s lawsuit, the paperwork instead transferred their homes to LLCs connected to the defendants—causing homeowners to unknowingly sign away ownership. The Arizona Attorney General accused Gretchen Zamjahn and her co-defendant of taking at least hundreds of homes through the alleged scheme. Zamjahn has now settled the civil case, waived her right to a trial, permanently surrendered her notary license and accepted a lifetime ban from conducting real estate transactions in Arizona.
