Bright blue birds spotted near Arizona’s Salt River were reportedly dyed and released for a gender reveal—and local wildlife rescuers say the stunt could have put them in serious danger. An Arizona influencer couple hired Queen Creek-based Sacred Dove Release to color the birds blue before releasing them to announce their baby’s gender. Soon afterward, people near Coon’s Bluff began reporting the unusually colored birds. A local wildlife rehabilitator captured several of them but said the dye could not be fully removed. Her biggest concern was that the bright coloring made the birds much easier for predators to spot in the desert. The company’s owner said she used non-toxic food coloring, that most of the birds returned safely and that she would not offer the service again following the backlash.
