An Arizona influencer couple hired Sacred Dove Release, a Queen Creek company, to dye birds bright blue and release them to announce their baby’s gender. Soon after, people along the Salt River near Coon’s Bluff started reporting the strange blue birds and called in a local wildlife rehabber. Crystal White of Crystal’s Critter Haven caught several but couldn’t fully wash the dye out. Her concern is simple. Out in the brown desert, a bright blue bird stands out to every predator around. “They are like beacons for predators,” she said. The company’s owner, Monica Flores, said she used non-toxic food coloring, that it was her first time dyeing birds, and that most returned home healthy.
