A 14-year-old Gilbert boy may have saved a woman’s life after finding her wandering alone in 103° heat. Royal Cothrun was riding his bike when he noticed Theresa Morgan confused, sweating and struggling with grocery bags. She had recently been diagnosed with dementia and wandered miles from home after becoming disoriented during a grocery trip. Royal moved her into the shade, helped her remember her son’s phone number and stayed by her side until her family and paramedics arrived. Parts of the rescue were even captured by the smart glasses he was wearing. Gilbert Fire and the Air National Guard plan to recognize Royal for his quick thinking and compassion. Gilbert Fire says he will be formally honored at the August 11 Town Council meeting.
