Today marks the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a landmark civil rights law that provides protections and expands opportunities for people with disabilities. Signed into law in 1990, the ADA has contributed to greater accessibility across many areas of daily life, including access to health services. Since 1990, remarkable progress has been made in advancing the accessibility of health services for people with disabilities. At the same time, gaps in implementation continue to create barriers to equitable access to care for people with intellectual disabilities (ID).
