Thirty-six years ago, the Americans with Disabilities Act changed what was possible by expanding protections, access, and opportunity for millions of disabled people. It was a landmark victory won through the relentless organizing of disabled activists who refused to accept exclusion as the status quo. As Audre Lorde reminded us, none of our struggles exist in isolation. Disability justice is inseparable from racial justice, economic justice, gender justice, and the fight for communities where everyone can thrive. Today, we celebrate the organizers, advocates, and disabled leaders who made the ADA possible and those continuing the work to make accessibility, dignity, and belonging a reality for all.
