"We think it's the future," said seaweed farmer Bren Smith, who started Connecticut's first commercial seaweed farm in 2012. The slimy, sometimes smelly crop is emerging as a promising source of food, jobs and cleaner oceans. When Lesley Stahl visited Smith in 2018, he was operating one of the nation's largest seaweed hatcheries. His kelp was sold fresh, frozen and even as noodles. Customers included Google cafeterias, Yale University, restaurants and wholesalers. Demand was so strong that he had sold out for four straight years. #kelp #seaweed #farming #ocean
