Ever come face-to-face with a grizzly bear? Neither had we. In 2020, Bill Whitaker got up close to a 300-pound grizzly as a wildlife specialist fitted it with a radio collar to help track the species' recovery. In 1975, grizzly bears were among the first animals to be protected under the Endangered Species Act. At the time, the number of bears in the Lower 48 states had been reduced by about 98%, putting the species at risk of disappearing. In the ensuing 45 years, grizzlies have made a remarkable comeback, with their numbers more than tripling since being listed as endangered. #montana #grizzlies #bear #endangeredspecies
